Fighting for Equality: People with Different Abilities : A traveling exhibit sponsored by Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Fighting for Equality: People with Different Abilities explores the challenges and achievements of Americans seeking civil rights for those with disabilities. Focusing on examples from Missouri and Kansas, the exhibit charts progress from the establishment of educational institutions for the disabled on the nation’s western frontier in the late 1800s through the civil rights movement of the 1970s to the establishment of the Americans with Disabilities Act, passed in 1990.
