ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Resources in the Library

This guide provides information on the various resources and services available at Billington Library for persons with disabilities.

Assistive Technology

The library has assistive technology for students to use, which includes the following software programs:

Jaws

  • Developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse, provides speech output for the most popular computer applications on your PC.

Read and Write Gold

  • Intuitive, easy-to-use software used text-to-speech, dual color highlighting, dictionaries and dictation for documents, web pages, Google Docs, PDFs and ePubs using text-to-speech, dual color highlighting, dictionaries and dictation.

ZoomText 

  • This magnifier/reader software enlarges and enhances everything on a computer screen, echoes typing and essential program activity, and automatically reads documents, web pages and email.

 

The Library also provides the following resources:

  • Laser printer with enlargement capabilities

  • Portable Ubi Duo laptops for communication impaired persons to communicate with librarian, student, etc. (please ask at Service Desk)

  • Handheld magnifiers (please ask at the Service Desk)

  • Loaner laptops for use within the library (please ask at the Service Desk)

  • 1 workstation with electronically adjustable height desk and trackball mouse
