Library Front Door

Billington Library's website is a good starting place to find wide ranging search options and resources, print or non-print, for business research and background reading, including industry-related topics.  While we have selective print sources on industry issues, companies, and the economy, we are not of size of cover every industry in depth and there are some work-a-rounds to fill gaps in needed content.

Need assistance in defining and formulating a research strategy visit with our librarians at the first floor desk.  This will save on the "frustration factor."

Books on aspects of industries are comprehensive, giving detailed content about history, structure, markets, labor or operations.  You may find some selective books on company/corporation history as well as industries among the Billington Library's holdings.

Use choices on this page to find some of library resource offerings before moving on to "gold mine" of available, content-focused, electronic resources.

Be aware, any desired resource not otherwise held by the Billington Library may be requested/obtained thru our InterLibrary Loan (ILL) service.

Can't find or identify a specific source item on industry analysis try casting  a wider search using WorldCat.

Summon Searching

Summon is a broad-based resources discovery search of both Billington library resources as well as selective content pulled from our subscription databases.  Using one search box, a researcher may enter defined term(s) and get relevant, wide-ranging ranked results relating to a research interest. From a broad topic search, each added keyword will further updates and narrows the results set.  Summon also suggests focused databases relevant the search's subject matter.  If results are numerous and/or varied, use search filters, such as date coverage, full-text, library catalog, content type [newspapers, journal articles, transcripts, etc], or discipline to view sub-cluster results.  Specific, suggested databases will allow for more precision and filter searching options for a researching a topic and not otherwise allowed by Summon.

Caveats: Summon prefers search term logic connectors, AND, OR, NOT, to be all caps.  Use quotation marks to preserve searching a specific word phrase (more than one word) within source item content.  I.e., "risk analysis" (or) "telecommunications industry" (or) "share of the market".

Example:  Start broadly searching:  "aerospace industry"---as expected a large number of results.  Each added search term requirement causes the previous resultant set to be updated immediately and further narrowed.  Full search might look like:

"aerospace industry" AND employment AND "job growth" AND trends
