Academic Achievement Center Services
The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) provides access and support to Learning Specialists, Reading Specialists, and a Deaf Education Specialist to help meet the needs of students with learning disabilities, students with print disabilities, and Deaf/hard-of-hearing students. The AAC is located on the first floor of the Library building (LIB).
Access Services
If you are a student with a disability and need accommodations, Access Services can provide support to help you meet your educational goals.
Access Services can be reached via email at accessservices@jccc.edu or by phone at 913-469-3521. Their office location is on the 2nd floor of the Student Center (SC 202).
Students now have most course information available through Canvas and online class sessions are offered via Zoom. Recordings of the sessions are available for students to re-watch if information was missed. Access Services also has notetakers who provide notes in live Zoom sessions. Those notes are posted for students through the myAccess database system.

Assistive Technology
Assistive technology (AT) is available for use by students with disabilities. Access Services can help you find the tools you need.
Assistive technology is available in several places on campus. The second floor of the library and the Microcomputer Open Lab in RC 335 have dedicated assistive technology stations for your use. You may also request assistive technology installation in specific classrooms and/or resource centers. Contact the Assistive Technology Coordinator or an Access Advisor for information on assistive technology at JCCC and for specific technology requests.
The following assistive technology is currently available at JCCC.
Service Animals
According to the Code of Federal Regulations, a service animal is any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Other species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or untrained, are not considered service animals. JCCC Canvas courses now have Ally Course Accessibility Reports available to the course instructor. These reports support the College’s ongoing effort to create accessible online learning environments for all students.
The new Ally tool will evaluate the files included in a Canvas course and will display Accessibility Indicators — which are only visible to the course instructor — so you can see what file modifications can be made to make your course content more inclusive.
